"The Glass Bead Game"

Dedicated to the great poet and novelist, Hermann Hesse, for his renowned works: Steppenwolf, Siddhartha, and the Glass Bead Game. There are many outstanding works of Mr. Hesse worth looking into. It seemed fitting to create a category where I could display magical beads.

Glass beads offer such a wide array of color and texture. Glass is manufactured from natural elements, the main ingredient being sand. It can be blown or molded to form many different shapes. Color is derived from the addition of metal oxides such as cobalt, cadmium, selenium, and gold (to name a few) during the mixing process.  Some beads are dyed with natural plants. The combinations are endless!  From the most simple monochrome, to the swirled art glass beads of yesteryear,  and the fine cut gem stones that imitate precious stones. Just a final note, if you love vintage Czech glass Mardi Gras Beads check out my catagory Old Mardi Gras".
