Our Purrfect Friends
"If we treated everyone we meet with the same affection we bestow upon our favorite cat, they too would purr." - Martin Baxbaum
This category is dedicated to all the feline worshipers of the world. For me, that would be none other than Mr. Walter Mindy, my orange tabby cat weighing 15 pounds. He was my purrfect friend and confidante for eleven and one half years. On November 13, 2005 Mr. Min (as I often called him) crossed over to the Rainbow Bridge. His soul lives in my heart through eternity. lHe reminded me of Macavity from T. S. Elliott's "Old Possum's Book of Practical Cats" and my favorite quote:
"Macavity's a Mystery Cat: he's called the Hidden Paw -
For he's the master criminal who can defy the Law.
He's the bafflement of Scotland Yard, the Flying Squad's despair:
For when they reach the scene of crime - Macavity's not there!
T. S. Elliott
A final word! There are so many homeless "feral" cats in this country due to pet owners thinking kittens are so cute. Being a cat owner is for the life of a cat. Cats do not adapt well to constant change and need loving surrogates as caretakers. Our cat friends are beings of our earth as we ourselves, and deserve the respect and care they need. Remember it is a lifelong commitment so if you are thinking of adopting a cat, please consider their well being that includes spaying/neutering to stop the spread of unwanted feral's (homeless cats) and diseases, vet visits which can be costly, feeding, grooming, exercising and loving your cat - the list goes on. Your cat friend will give you years of unconditional (independent) love - with loving meows. My motto is: I treat my cat as I would want to be treated myself, after all, he is my friend, my family. That said, may you find a lifelong friendship with your feline friend.
