Onyx and Seed Pearl Mourning Pendant

Presented is an unsigned mourning pendant made of gold filled metal. This almost appears to be a rose gold metal. I have done much research on this piece however I cannot find one of like style. The style is indicative of jewelry manufactured during the turn of the century. The Victorian Era was noted for using seed pearls especially incorporated in mourning jewelry. Jet, a mourning stone form Whitby, England and was the stone of choice however, it was hard to come by and expensive. Alternatives such as onyx, gutta purcha and bog oak were used. This stone appears to be onyx with six "v" shaped prongs holding the stone to the bezel. There is a seed pearl set in the center with a serrated bezel. Pendant measures approximately 1.5" in width by 2" in height. This measurement includes the bezel. A final note; for centuries, onyx has been used in rosary beads and is said to calm overwhelming emotions such as the loss of a loved one - truly a healing stone. Pendant is very beautiful indeed and would look lovely with a black satin or velvet cord. Chain or cord not included. Condition is excellent.
