Sterling Silver Rose Brooch
A rose is a rose is a rose.........the highest form of love. Presented is a large sterling silver rose with two buds. This rose is set upon a leaf background. The flower appears to be vermeil (gold over sterling) however some of the gold appears to have faded through the aging process. This does not detract from this brooch but rather it enhances the patina. Marked 925 on the the back, it is also sighed with what looks like GLW. The L looks like it is worked into the the G and there is a very large W with a flag on the right side underneath the the GL. I did some research in my many books on jewelry, however I was unable to find out who the designer/silversmith is. The rose itself has so much detail with the petals in dimension right up until the last coiled few. There is even a thorn on the stem. This lovely rose measures approximately 3" in height by 1 1/4" in width at the widest point. I have left the patina alone as I felt it added to the elegance of this rose. The back of this brooch appears that the rose may be molded. There is a "c" clasp with a pin stem in good working order. |
